How do I update QCS to the latest version?

 

Each release of QCS has a version number in the form of W.X.Y.Z. At the time this FAQ was written the current release of QCS was 2.38.1.85. If you are notified that a new version of QCS has been released and only the two last numbers have changed, say from 2.38.1.84 to 2.38.1.85 or 2.38.1.85 to 2.38.2.2, it is considered a minor release.

To upgrade your QCS in this situation you will need to perform the following:

  1. Click on "File | Check for Software Updates" to open the Check for QCS Updates dialog as shown below:

 

  1. If a new release is available and you have the necessary administrator privileges to write to the folder where QCS is installed you may click on [Update Now] to download the new minor release of QCS. If you do not have the necessary privileges the white box above [Update Now] will contain information that may be helpful in resolving the privileges problem. Usually you will have to contact your computer support personnel for assistance.

If one of the first two numbers in the version number has changed you will have to update your QCS by downloading the full QCS Setup program and running it. Note that it is unusual, perhaps once every few years, when a major update to QCS is released.
